Rick Johnson, RN, CRRN, CCM
Chief Executive Officer
Rick joined HealthSouth Cane Creek in August 2016 as chief executive officer with more than 30 years of health care experience. During his tenure with HealthSouth, he has served as director of case management, director of quality/ risk management and chief nursing officer. A southwest Virginia native, Rick graduated from the Virginia Appalachian Tri-College nursing program. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in nursing and MBA with a concentration in health care administration, from King University in Bristol, Tenn. He is certified as a Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse (CRRN) as well as Certified Case Manager (CCM). He is a member of Association of Rehabilitation Nurses (ARN) and Case Management Society of America (CMSA) at both the national and state levels.
Belinda Merritt, M.D.
Dr. Merritt has nearly 25 years of experience in physical medicine and rehabilitation. She originally joined HealthSouth Cane Creek in 1990. Over the years, she has served in the roles of outpatient medical director, inpatient medical director, and consultant. Most recently, she again assumed the role of medical director over inpatient operations in 2013. Dr. Merritt is a graduate of the University of Illinois, College of Medicine in Chicago, and completed her residency at Rush Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago. Dr. Merritt’s expertise extends to advanced wound management, and electro-diagnostic services. Her passion is a holistic, patient-centered approach to rehabilitation that produces exceptional service delivery and outcomes.
Belinda Merritt, M.D. is an independent private practice physician whose office is located at the hospital.
Candace Castleman, RN
Director of Quality and Risk Management
Candace joined the staff of HealthSouth Cane Creek Rehabilitation Hospital in 2009 as a rehabilitation liaison to local community hospitals and physicians. She became director of quality and risk management in 2013. Candace completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Tennessee at Martin in 2008 and became a CRRN in 2013. Candace heads the hospital’s patient satisfaction initiatives, quality reviews, and advanced certification requirements including The Joint Commission and National Stroke Association. Candace is a native of Greenfield, Tennessee and currently resides in Martin, Tennessee with husband, Bryan and their son, Wade.
Cindy Cooper, RN
Director of Case Management
Cindy has long been an active member of the west Tennessee healthcare community in acute, post-acute and home care since completing her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Tennessee at Martin. She joined HealthSouth Cane Creek Rehabilitation Hospital as case management director in 2011. In her role at Cane Creek Cindy is responsible for discharge planning, interdisciplinary team conferences and coordination of care needs.
Lori Manley, OTR/L
Director of Therapy Operations
A native of Osceola, Arkansas, Lori has been a pivotal component of HealthSouth Cane Creek Rehabilitation Hospital’s therapeutic rehabilitation programs for more than 20 years. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy from the University of Central Arkansas and has served in numerous leadership roles at Cane Creek. Lori exemplifies the value of continuing education for her staff by achieving the rank of clinical specialist II through HealthSouth’s clinical career ladder. She has earned advanced certification in Neuro Developmental Treatment (NDT) and Interactive Metronome. As director of therapy operations, Lori is responsible for all the therapy disciplines and spearheads several patient education initiatives in the hospital.
Lindsey Rotger, RN
Chief Nursing Officer
Lindsey has served as chief nursing officer for HealthSouth Cane Creek since March 2014. Her tenure with HealthSouth began in 2006 as a staff nurse. In 2008, Lindsey served as nurse manager until September 2010 when she was promoted to the position of director of quality and risk. Lindsey transferred to HealthSouth Lakeview in Elizabethtown, Ky. in March 2013 to serve in the chief nursing officer position before returning to HealthSouth Cane Creek.
Lindsey graduated in 2006 from the University of Tennessee at Martin with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing and is currently completing a master's degree in business administration. She became a CRRN (Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse) in December 2008 and is an active member of the Association of Rehabilitation Nurses. Lindsey resides in Martin with her husband, Joshua and son, Evan.
Director of Human Resources
Sharon has been director of human resources at HealthSouth Cane Creek Rehabilitation Hospital since 2007. Prior to joining Cane Creek, Sharon held human resource leadership positions at MTD Products for several years. In her role at the hospital, Sharon is responsible for recruiting new talent, coordinating our professional student programs for nursing and therapy, and various employee and community events.
Prior to joining HealthSouth Cane Creek Rehabilitation Hospital as Controller in 2010, Bethany served in several health care finance positions regionally. A native of Palmersville, Bethany earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Freed-Hardeman University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Tennessee at Martin. As controller at Cane Creek, Bethany is responsible for financial and support operations for the hospital as well as coordination of patient care accounts with our regional business office.
Jan Trowhill, RHIT
Director of Health Information Management
A member of HealthSouth Cane Creek Rehabilitation Hospital’s team since 1989, Jan has been instrumental in the hospital’s growth and development over the years. A certified coder, Jan is a resource assisting other HealthSouth hospitals with various needs nationwide. As director of health information management at Cane Creek, Jan leads our team in ensuring completeness of health records, coding compliance and privacy of protected health information.
Jada Turner RN
Business Development Director
Jada joined the staff at Spire Cane Creek Rehabilitation Hospital in 2014. During her time with Spire Cane Creek, she has served as a registered nurse, rehab liaison and admissions liaison before being promoted to director of marketing operations in 2017. She holds a bachelor's degree in health and human performance from the University of Tennessee at Martin as well as an associate degree in nursing from Jackson State. In her role at Cane Creek Jada is responsible for the implementation of the referral process, oversees hospital admissions, as well as marketing and business development.
